Wood, a Safe and All-Natural Teether for Baby {Haba Clutching Pyramid Toy Review}

Before becoming a parent yourself, you would never imagine how hard it is to choose a teether for a baby. Yes, I would have never imagined that choosing a teether for my little one’s aching gums could be so complicated. Well I knew that we will use Sophie La Girafe for sure but what else?

When #Baby1 was teething I assumed Sophie la Girafe would be sufficient and I was wrong. I then thought that one of those plastic water-filled stars that you could freeze would do the trick. But that was not the case, they were so hard and they have joined the huge amount of products I bought for my first baby that I have never used: useless, inappropriate and unsafe.

You know my passion for green living and our aim to choose safer alternatives, more natural and environmentally friendly when we can. So for Baby#3 who just starts teething at 3 months and a half I thought It was the right time to purchase her some teething toys. But which one?

I definitely knew that I wanted to avoid any plastic teethers that contain BPA, PVC or phthalates.

In the market, there are so many teethers to choose from. Some made with plastics, some from natural rubber, etc. I decided then to look for teethers made of unpainted wood, 100% natural rubber, organic cotton, and silicone.

What about Rubber teethers? Rubber teethers are not plastic so do not have all the chemicals that make plastics so problematic but they do contain latex proteins. A small percentage of the population has an allergy to latex, and latex allergies can develop from frequent and prolonged exposure. There is no direct link between chewing on a rubber teether and a child later developing a latex allergy. So I chose a Sophie La Girafe Toy but I know that sometimes for baby, to ease the gums, we need something harder to chew.

Wooden teethers are the most natural!

Wood teething toys are perfect and do not contain anything harmful for baby. Plus, there are plenty of good ones to choose from. I went for the Haba Clutching Toy Colour Pyramid.

Haba Clutching Toy Colour Pyramid

Why HABA? Haba offer a huge selection of toys for children of all ages and they’re all a little bit special. Haba Toys foster child’s skills, imaginative play and fun. Haba wooden toys are made in Germany using sustainable PEFC certified  solid beech wood and coloured with a non toxic water-based stain. I bought few years ago an Haba soother holder and Baby#1 loved it so much when she was teething. The Haba holder resisted so much that it was obvious for me that I would buy again an Haba toy.

Why the Clutching Pyramid?

Because this clutching rattle is brightly coloured, flexible and has numerous fun and exciting elements for baby to discover. Including 3 circle loops that move and rattle when shaken about. Baby is going to love bending, moving, and grasping this fun and developmentally enhancing toy.

Haba Clutching Toy Colour Pyramid

  • Designed and manufactured in Germany
  •  Eco-friendly
  • Bright

The price {£8.95} can seem a bit expensive but unfortunately wooden toys are not cheap and you always have to pay a bit more. But I do think and believe that the quality of these toys is worth it and we should always keep an eye on the big picture.  Going Green is a safer option for us, baby and the environment.

My final view:

It is nice to have something I could encourage her to chew on when she is teething. While both of my other daughters’ teeth tended to come in without much drama, cries and problems,  you can always experience real teething discomfort, safe teethers are a must.

This Haba toy is perfect for my baby little hands, she really can grasp it easily! She moves it around with no issue, the weight is just perfect.

It is becoming her favourite teething toy along with her Piccalilly Muslin blanket.

And you, what is your baby favourite teether?

But if your babies are not into gnawing on wood so why not try rubber, or cloth? Hevea do have wonderful teethers made of 100% natural rubber and you will find a lot of toys using Organic cotton to help your little ones.

What does Baby wear? Geggamoja Organic clothing!

Note : I bought the product above and I have reviewed it because I wanted to.  All words (including spelling mistakes) and opinions are 100% my own and genuine.
