Whisbear, The Humming Bear Review

Before baby#3 birth, I was looking for a sleeping aid. I know how important it is to establish a good sleep routine and this, from birth. I heard about the Whisbear and I shall say that I was impressed!

Having already two babies, one who suffered from allergies and bad colics from birth and the other one from reflux,  I should admit that we have used quite often the vacuum and a hairdryer to help soothe them in despair. I forgot the road trip in the car and the tumble dryer! So talk to me about white noises, yes, they can be definitely useful and if anything could avoid us to use all these devices, why not to try?

What or should I say who is Whisbear®, The Humming Bear?

Whisbear® The Humming Bear is an innovative sleep aid created by two Mothers and a multi-award winning bear. Based on their own experience, they have designed a product aimed to help newborns with a smooth transition from a prenatal to postnatal life by recreating soothing sounds of the womb.

Whisbear® is the first sleep aid  featuring the CRYsensor, an intelligent device that automatically activates calming white noise when your baby starts crying. But Whisbear® is so much more than just a sleep product. It is also a sensory toy, a unique playtime companion that promotes both – fine motor and sensory development skills.

What are its features?

The magic of Whisbear® is locked in a small, round device. It emits a white noise. White noise is a method of soothing newborns but also older babies. The type, frequency and tone of the sound used is pleasant and safe for a tiny ears and calming for a newly born mind. An Intelligent CRYsensor function is particularly sensitive to the sound of baby’s cry. When it hears the cry it automatically switch on the soothing sound to bring the sleep back.

Whispbear is made in Europe by a socially run responsibly business, employing local european subcontractors.

My point of view:

I love the original design of the bear. It is totally unusual and it stands out. The bear is long with four legs. Each of its leg has different colours, with one having a texture to it and each has magnets. These magnets are located at the foot end and help to attach the bear to the cot. The legs enable it to hang or sit wherever you choose. The bear is incredibly soft and the contrasting fabrics on the leg makes this bear an interesting sensory toy for young babies. Baba#3 loves looking at it and since few weeks, she is starting to pull it over from her cot bar to bring it next to her.

Now regarding the humming part of it. It is a very interesting idea and clearly white noise can be really helpful. Unfortunately with Baba#3 it is absolutely not working to soothe her but none of the white noises soothe her. In our road trip to Paris, the car did not soothe her when I remember that #1 and #2 fell instantly asleep once they were in the car when they were babies. Hair driers, washing machines…none of them work with her. So sadly, the main purpose of this beautiful very high quality bear does not work but and it is a HUGE one, it works with #2!!!! She loves it and it soothes her when she wakes up at night and she is 2.

So to conclude, I do believe that this is a fabulous and ingenious idea and this bear is wonderful in all ways. Soft, and hypoallergenic, your baby can sleep with it with no harm. Usually, white noises work wonders with babies so clearly I will advise to buy it but to keep in mind that if your baby is totally insensitive to them, then it won’t work.

  • Does not necessarily work
  • Price , can be a bit expensive at £39.90 but very good quality

PROS:

  • Sleeping aid
  • CRY sensor
  • Turns off after 40 minutes /stand by mode
  • Incredibly soft
  • rustling elements in the ears and paws along with contrasting colours and different textures of fabrics.
  • Hypoallergenique filling
  • Oeko tex Fabric
  • Love the attachement bit using magnets
  • The volume can be manually adjusted to suit baby’s needs
  • Made in Europe

As far as I am concerned I am not disappointed because the bear is extremely well made. It is clear that it has been designed with baby’s health and comfort in mind. It makes a beautiful addition to a nursery and a wonderful prop. Baby will surely keep it for many years and this bear is going to receive a lot of cuddles.

To conclude, I would definitely recommend the Whisbear if you are willing to install a bedime routine using a device that can help you soothe baby {suffering from colic or hard to settle} or as a gift, the white noise in the background definitely helps  –again if your baby is receptive to white noise.

They are available in four different colours. Visit  the Whisbear website for more informations, or to buy a Whisbear for your little one or a friend.
